Tingle-Wood Wines is situated in the lush countryside near the picturesque village of Denmark on the south coast of Western Australia. The vineyard was planted by Bob & Judy Wood in 1976, making it the first commercial vineyard in the area. Advice against the venture was received from many sources. However, 5 acres of vines were planted, and produced the first vintage in 1980. Progress was slow, as the vines were not irrigated, but this proved to be a blessing one very hot summer, when other vineyards wilted, but Tingle-Wood vines had been trained to search deeply for water and withstood the heat well. Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Shiraz grapes were planted, and Tingle-Wood
remains one of the smallest vineyards in the area, producing dry & late-harvest
riesling, as well as a cabernet/shiraz blend. Tingle-Wood's vines are still hand-pruned and picked. |
